Top 10 Channel 5 Lakorns

Channel 5 is a public television network owned by the Royal Thai Army and launched in 1958. There aren't a lot of lakorns release from Channel 5 that I have seen, so far I think even less than 45 lakorns only but I have love a lot of them and it was really hard to choose my top ten lakorns. Nonetheless, let's just get started because it going to be a long writing process for me and a long reading process for you.

This lakorn is one of my favorite and I love the story line and meaning behind it. Although the actors and actresses weren't my favorite at the time, I grew to love them after this lakorn. There were parts that I didn't love as much as other parts but over all the lakorn itself was a very good lakorn. I going to say that if you are going to watch or have already watch this version before, you should really watch the new version too. If you watch the new version before, I think you should really watch this version too. They are both the same but the actors and actresses playing them changes everything.

2. Soda Gub Cha Yen (1999)

Soda Gub Cha Yen starred Tik Jesadaporn Pholdee as Pattaya/Pattana and Pin Kejmanee Pichaironnarongsongkhram as Atom or Amy. Atom is a successful 23 year old chemistry genius who already has a PhD. She is a professor at a university and her parents expect her to have a boyfriend who has a PhD. When her parents want her to marry a nerdy engineer, Khun Chansamorn, Atom tries to get out of it by blurting out that she already has a boyfriend. Pattaya is young playboy who lives a carefree life surrounded by beautiful women. However, when his girlfriend embarrassingly dumps him, he needs to find a new girlfriend so his mother won't lose face in her hi-so group of friends. Desperate to quickly find a significant other, Atom and Pattaya turn to Gin Tong Baiyok, a dating service that matches people together. They secretly apply and are unexpectedly paired up together. They are extremely unhappy, but have to work together to please their parents - but each have to completely makeover their persona to match the other's family's expectations. Atom turns into a sexy, fashionable girl named Amy and Pattaya turns into a PhD genius named Pattana. The two work together to make their scheme successful and end up falling for the real person they each are rather than the fake persona that they had to pretend to be.

This is another favorite of mine growing up. It was funny and very easy to watch. There were drama, of course, but it wasn't heavy. It was a fun and very light lakorn to watch. I can re-watch this lakorn over and over again and not hate it at all. Although I can't find this lakorn online, so if you know where I can find this, if it exist, let me know, because I would love to watch it again. I personally think this would be a really good lakorn for a remake because it's really old. It's been over twenty years since its release but also because I don't think anyone going to hate this lakorn. You may think it boring or dislike it but I don't think that you are going to hate it at all.

3. Sud Sai Pan (2013)

Sud Sai Pan is a remake of the original of the same title release in 1972 follow by two other release in 1984 and 1995. This version is the most current version starring Toomtam Yuthana Puengklarng as Thitit Suriyakan and View Wannarot Sontichai as twin sisters: Gandaowasee and Gandaomanee Grinisuan. Tithit meets Gandaomanee in Phrajoit and falls in love with her. Unknown to Thit, Gandaomanee is using her elder twin sister's name, Gandaowasee, for herself, therefore tricking him into thinking her real name is Gandaowasee. She later leaves him when she grows tired of him and finds out that he's the poor son of a merchant. Thit is heart-broken and tries searching for her unsuccessfully. One year later, Thit meets the real Gandaowasee at a banquet and is ecstatic upon seeing her. But Gandaowasee claims she doesn't know him. Thit is confused and confronts her about their relationship. He assumes she doesn't want to remember him because he is poor, therefore denying ever knowing him.

I actually didn't want to watch this lakorn because I knew it was going to be drama and drama over and over through the summary given. I did eventually watch this drama two year later and I really love it. I personally really like View and through this list you can tell. Just keep reading and scrolling down. When I was watching it, I hated View playing the evil twin sister because in my eyes I love view playing the main lead roles so to see her playing an evil character, was not pleasant at all. At the end of the lakorn, I was surprise and amaze at her acting skills. I'm surprise that she can be able to play anything from the soft, pretty, sweet characters to those evil, mean characters. I can't wait to see what is in story for her career. Toomtam on the other hand was someone I didn't know until this drama. I grew to like him through his lakorn and surprising he is one of the actors on my list that I am constantly waiting and watching his lakorn.

4. Kaew Lorm Petch (2008)

Kaew Lorm Petch is a remake of Luerd Hong release in 2001 starring View Wannarot Sontichai as Nampetch and Son Songpaisarn as Cheewin. Pikul run away to Bangkok while she is nine months pregnant. That same night a businessman and his wife, Lada, who is also nine months pregnant, gets into a car accident with the bus Pikul was on. The crash causes both of them to go into labor. Later, Pikul overhears the police talking about arresting a fugitive, thinking it was her she ran to get her baby and instead took Lada's baby. She makes a run for it. A couple of minutes later, she figures out that it wasn't her baby so she goes back but finds out that her baby is ill and needs surgery so she lets the wealthy couple keep her baby so they can afford the needed surgery and medicine to keep her baby alive. Eighteen years passes and Pikul comes to Bangkok to run a candy stall with her daughter, Nampetch,, who is actually Lada's birth daughter. Namphet is an obedient and respectable young woman who holds high regards for her mother unlike Gaew Gao, Pikul's birth daughter. Gaew Gao grows up to be a spoiled little brat and her paternal grandmother's favorite grandchild. One day, Namphet helps Lada from getting stab by a robber who happens to be Pikul's husband. From this Pikul and Namphet receive a job from Lada and move into Lada's house and is taken in as servants. Cheewin, Gaew Gao's boyfriend, sees Namphet and falls for her instantly. Gaew Gao notice that Cheewin secretly likes Namphet and become extremely jealous of Namphet so this started to cause chaos in the house. It then apparent that Gaew Gao may not be Lada's daughter and so the race is on to figure out the truth and for Cheewin to fight hard for Namphet's love.

This was love at first sight. I love this story line already, although I feel like is the most common story line ever of two girls being switch at birth. The story itself is actually really nice and surprising because you sort of knew what was going to happen but at the same time didn't. This lakorn starred a lot of new actresses and actors and through this lakorn was the reason why I love View and Son together and by themselves. But I also love the other actresses and actors in this lakorn too. I personally would love to see a newer version of this lakorn. I think this lakorn have a lot of potential to be alternative, some parts only. I think this would be a great debuting lakorn for a new sets of actors and actresses.

5. Ching Chang (2009)

Ching Chang starred Captain Phutanate Hongmanop as Yod and Jieb Sopitnapa Chumpanee as Im. They are the main couple and focused on their story. It also starred Pepper Ratthasart Korrasud as In, Pim Pimmada Boriruksuppakorn as Oon, Ann Alicha Laisattruklai as Bang Orn, Pang Ornjira Larmwilai as Aree, Ri Puri Hiranpruk as Ying, and Noom Atthaporn Teemakorn as Ping. These actors and actresses along aren't the main lead in this lakorn, play a very important part to the story line.

Ching Chang means Hate. This is a multi-generational story about love affairs of four sisters: Im, Oon, Bang Orn and Aree. Although the daughters of the strict Village Chief Kaew, greed, jealously and infatuations have them constantly competing and bickering. Im, the eldest, is gentle and beautiful; naturally, she draws the attention of eligible bachelors. She is the love of Yod, the village hoodlum, who would do anything to have her; but, he has to compete for her with the wealthy and respectable In. Meanwhile, Oon is in love with Yod and Bang Orn wants In; they each scheme, separately, to get their man by getting Im out of the way. In despair, Yod resorts to black magic to make Im fall in love with him. They run away together, they day before Im is to marry In. Furious, In then swears that he will our his entire life into getting revenge against Yod and getting Im back. Hate, love, obsession and passion set in motion the scheming that will reign over the lives of the four sisters and the men who love them. Not only them, but their children will also have to deal with the bad karma created too.

I love and hate this lakorn. *wink wink* The begin was interesting and got me excited and wanted more and as I was watching it, I came to the conclusion that it was way to much drama for me. The sisters are fighting and the boys are fighting and there are so many love lines or connections that it's not even a triangle to square it goes five different ways. But it does get better as time goes by. Yes, there are more drama but drama continues on to their own kids. In the next generation, when they have kids, you see everything unfold from lies, secrets, past and truth. It all come falling out and yes, we are introduce to more new actors and actresses but to see the children being haunted by their parents karma, it is so sad. I was crying my eyes out majority of the time when I was watching this lakorn. It goes from unwanted mother to love between unknown siblings and memory lost to forgiveness. It amazing. I would love a remake of this lakorn and I'm telling you the new cast who play these characters have to be excellent and talented actors and actresses because every single cast of this version was excellent.

6. Koo Gum (2013)

Koo Gum is a very popular lakorn of the older generation. This version is a remake of the original release in 1973 follow by a release in 1988 and then 1990 with a squeal titled Sunset at Chaophraya in 1996. Another version was release in 2004 and this version being the latest version release in 2013. There is a movie version of this lakorn release in 2013. This version starred Bie Surkrit Wisedkaew as Kobori and Noona Neunthida Sopon as Angsumalin or Hideko. The story is set during World War II when the Japanese Empire sent troops to Siam (Thailand) as part of their greater plan. Kobori, an idealistic Japanese officer set up a base camp by the Chaophraya River which is in the are of Angumalin's house. He falls for her at first sight. Angsumalin, a proud Thai who despises every kind of threat to her country, sees him as a part of the Japanese Empire that deserves only hatreds. Despite his duty, Kobori wants to believe that his love will be able to find its way into her heart.

I have watch four version of this lakorn and movie. I have seen the movie version along with this version and the 1988 and 1990 release version. Personally, I love the 1988 version more because it was the version I first saw growing up. My father love that version. I remember watching it all the time. The 1990 version was alright although I love that it had a sequel. This version is amazing too. I love Noona and Bie already, so to see them act together for this version was amazing already. If you haven't heard the OST song to this version, please listen to it because I love it so much. I think if you like one version, you are going to like all of them. The story line is basically the same and the only changes are the actors and actresses.

7. Leh Ratree (2004)

Leh Ratree starred Ann Alicha Laisattruklai as Kate or Kase and Pepper Rattasart Korasut as Seit. Kate's father owed lots of money to some gamblers so he ripped off Seit's company to pay them back. Seit catches him and in order to pay the debt, Kate's father sells Kate to Seit because he know that Seit can take care of his daughter. Kate moves into Seit's house and she being taking care of Seit's family. Before all that had happened Seit found out that this wide was lying to him about her pregnancy, she was unable to get pregnancy. She lied so that he would marry her. They divorce and then Seit marries Kate, because his mother really wants a grandchild. He slowly start to fall for her, but at the same time doesn't fully trust her. They go through many obstacles from Seit's ex-wife coming back into their life and learning to trust each other.

This is a really good lakorn. I found this lakorn accidentally and I was in love with it. The story line was good and interesting. There is a new version and I love that version also. The only thing I probably hated about this story was the fact that he had an ex-wife. To see him so in love with her and then divorcing her, then marrying Kate after wasn't something I really like. Its like sort of a rebound relationship for him. Other than that, I really like this lakorn a lot.

8. Sakul Ga (2009)

Sakul Ga starred Mos Patiparn Pataweekarn as Pongsakorn Thepborirak or Nong and View Wannarot Sontichai as Dao. Nong is a rich man who comes from a long time of aristocrats. At first, he liked Dao and found her to be a virtuous girl. His nephew, Pu, also has a thing for her. When Nong learns that Dao's aunt/biological mother is a prostitute he tries to distance himself from her and also tries to sever his nephew's relationship with her. Breaking up Pu and Dao's relationship proves to be difficult because Pu is absolutely infatuated with Dao. The main plot of the story involves Nong trying to suppress his feelings for Dao and also trying to make everyone in his family shun her. In the end, he learns that just because her mother is a prostitute, it doesn't necessary mean she is a horrible person, circumstances made her participate in this line of work.

As you can tell, I love View, but I also love Mos. The story line wasn't interesting at all. I mean it was about a guy falling in love with someone he didn't like because of her mother being a prostitute. I think and I'm pretty sure there are a lot of story involving that same story line or structure. I think this lakorn means a lot more than just that. I actually didn't watch the whole entire lakorn first. I saw a few clips here and there and it was totally different from the summary so I decide to go watch it. Yes, the summary explain the beginning part of the story. The other have of the story is the interesting and better part. To see his love for her change and to see them understand each other and for her to find out the truth of parents was more interesting. The connection between Nong, Dao and Nong's nephew is through one person. That person is Dao's best friend that happen to be Nong's niece and the sister of Nong's nephew.

9. Kwarm Lub Kaung Superstar (2008)

Kwarm Lub Kaung Superstar starred Mos Patiparn Pataweekarn as Gun, Bee Namthip Jongrachatawiboon as Natedao and Best Aticha Pongsilpipat as Parn. Gun is the hottest P'ek in the business. Natedao is an actress that uses her talents to get to the top. She uses her 'acting' talents to get Gun to fall for her. Gun's mother gets her daughter's friend Parn to help her son out by being his maid. Gun's fame and career consist nothing but drama. When he is home alone with Parn, he get to live a normal life. The two used to play together when they were kids and Parn grew to be a very thoughtful and considerate when it comes to Gun, she is always there to distract him from his crazy life. In the mess of people doing anything to get to the top, the sabotage, the gossip and the secrets, Gun falls in love with Parn and through a turn of events, she ends up being pregnant. Everyone on Gun's side does all they can to keep Parn's pregnancy a secret, because Gun is publicly engaged to Natedao. Natedao decides to reveal Gun's secret and turns his fans as well as everyone in the business against him for having an affair with his servant. Natedao forces Gun to choose between his career or his family and he surprisingly choose his family. It seems like the world has turned their back on Gun, but little does Natedao know that his career isn't more important to him than his family nor her own career is gone too.

I originally thought that Bee was going to be the main lead in this lakorn. At the time, I think I really love Bee as an actress and I think of that time being her prime time so when I found out the Bee wasn't playing the main lead but the villain, I was a little bit disappointed. As the story progress, I started to really hate her. I feel like this lakorn show a different side to the glitz and glam of being a celebrity. This lakorn also show family and relationship from privacy and public and working hard and not using people to work your way up a ladder. I think this would be a really good lakorn to remake. Because we are more advance in technology and career as a celebrity is still the same, there are some issues that they can tackle and show in the newer version.

10. Pan Ruk Pan Rai (2013)

Pan Ruk Pan Rai is a remake of the original titled release in 2004. This version starred Toomtam Yuthana Puengklarng as Id and Charabelle Lanlalin as Korya. This story is about an orphan named Korya who turns out to be the long lost daughter of Noppadara Siwawong, the great-great grandchild of a king. During the journey to be reunited with her mother, the car she was in gets into an accident and the other orphan traveling with her, Payia, uses this chance to steal her identity. Meanwhile, Id, a young man Korya met previously and did not get along with finds her and take her to the hospital. When Korya wakes up, she has lost her memory, so Id, for fear of her safety, pretends that she's his soon-to-be fiance and keeps her close.

I personally didn't like this lakorn. I watch this after Sud Sai Pan only because of Toomtam. The lakorn was very annoy and boring for me. I skip a lot throughout the lakorn the first time, but I have gone back to re-watch it again after awhile. More to give it a second chance and second, because there wasn't nothing for me to watch. The second time around was better. I didn't skip a lot compare to the first time. I was less annoy of the characters and story line but I wasn't that impress either. Would I like a newer version? I probably would.

Let me know if we share the same love or different about this lakorn. What are some that you might recommend me and other people to watch?
