Thai Remakes Other Asian Countries Drama

Lately, Thai drama world has been remaking a lot of dramas from other Asian countries and from previous popular drama aired in the past from Thailand but I am not disappointed at all. In this post, I am going to list Thai dramas that are remake from other Asian countries. Majority of these drama are from South Korea but you would seem some from Taiwan and Japan.

The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince: Coffee Prince Thai (2012)

The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince: Coffee Prince Thai (2012) is a remake of the Korean drama Coffee Prince (2007). Mac Weeradon Wandcharoenporn and Maxine Inthiporn Tamsukhin played the leading role.

Win is a middle-aged guy from a rich family who has never had to work until his grandmother forces him to run a coffee shop. Nut is a hardworking and tomboyish girl who is often mistaken for a guy. She pretends to be a male to get a job at the coffee shop but Win and Nut gradually begin to develop feelings for each other.

Favorite Koo Jin Couples

Koo Jin is a Thai term with a meaning of "fantasy couple" or "shipped couple." (Thai Celebrity Fever Facebook) It's an qualitative to OTP (One True Pairing) that fans use for Korean celebrities. Koo Jin is actually use in this generation while Koo Kwan was use back then. According to this Asianfuse Thread, Koo Kwan is a better title and much more classy and difficult to earn while Koo Jin is thrown around for every couple. Koo Kwan is a term used to describe the perfect pairing. These term are given to the main leading roles when a lakorn received good feedback and ratings and it is normal for the entertainment industry to dub the pairings as Koo Jin, since they won the hearts of many. This isn't the only generation where Koo Jin fever has continuously increased.

I grew up watching Thai lakorn therefore I have watch a lot of actors and actresses work together and I have develop my favorite Koo Jin over the years. But here are my Koo Jin couples.

Yaya Urassaya Sperbund and Barry Nadech Kugimiya

Yaya and Nadech meet on 4 Huajai Haeng Koon Kao: Duang Jai Akkanee in 2010. Since then, they have work together in many commercials and modeling projects along with lakorns. They have work together in: Game Rai Phaai Game Ruk (2011), Torranee Nee Krai Krong (2012), The Rising Sun: Roy Ruk Hak Liam Tawan (2014), The Rising Sun: Roy Fun Tawan Duerd (2014), Leh Lub Salub Rarng (2017) and Likit Ruk or The Crown Princess (2018).

10 Thai Series

One thing I love about Thai lakorns are the series they create that connect each story together through the cast. It is rare to see this concept in Korean drama and definitely not in the Western countries either. The concept of having different and multiple stories connecting one another is lakorns or drama is something that Thai drama writers have been very successful with and trust me they are here to stay because everyone love it. In this post, I wrote down ten series that I have love and I cheated a little. Some of these might be familiar because I wrote them in some of my favorites dramas from the channel they are release in and also recommendations from my favorite actors and actresses list. If you already read through the other post where I wrote down the summary of each of the drama already, I suggest you skip it because its a copy and paste situation with different pictures (hopefully). But, without further ado, let go and get started.

  1. Paragit Ruk Series

Paragit Ruk also known as Love Mission is an action, romance, drama that was release on Channel 7 in 2017 starring Weir Sukollawat Kanarot, Porche Saran Sirilak, Aom Akkaphan Namart and Mick Tongraya. All four series together contain 40 episodes.

Top 20 Thai Actress

In this blog post list, I'm going to list my favorite Thai actresses. Now, this list has only been create recently for this blog post purpose, I don't really like to write down the list because it seem to change as I discover new actresses or watches more and new lakorns. If you are not familiar with me, as most of you, I actually grew up watching Thai lakorns in Hmong dub before I started watching them with subtitles. I went on mydramalist.com to search up all the Thai actresses and made a list. I wrote everyone name down along with a ranking number from one to ten. From that list of names I chose my top twenty actresses. I am going to create another list dedicated to the older actresses who usually play the grandmother, mother, and/or supporting roles in Thai lakorns. This list contain actresses who played the main role in their lakorns.

Top 20 CH, TW, HK Dramas

I watch so many dramas that I lost count of them nor do I have enough fingers to count them all. The reason why I decided to put Chinese, Taiwanese and Hong Kong dramas together is because I don't have a lot of dramas under the Hong Kong and Chinese list while my Taiwanese list can go on forever. Since they are from the same region, location on a map next to each other with similar language, I decided to put it together to save me from writing another list and you from reading another list. I was originally going to do this list as a top ten only but when I was writing this list down and choosing the dramas to put on this list, ten wasn't enough. Majority of the dramas on this list was Taiwanese therefore I added another ten. Ranking on this list would be base off how much I love, like, hated this drama, how many times I have watch this drama, memories watching this drama, and is worth watching this drama also how much I would like a remake of this drama.

Top 10 Channel 5 Lakorns

Channel 5 is a public television network owned by the Royal Thai Army and launched in 1958. There aren't a lot of lakorns release from Channel 5 that I have seen, so far I think even less than 45 lakorns only but I have love a lot of them and it was really hard to choose my top ten lakorns. Nonetheless, let's just get started because it going to be a long writing process for me and a long reading process for you.

1. Ngao Asoke (2008)

Ngao Asoke is a remake of the original release in 1999 follow by this release and the most current release in 2016. This version starred Pong Nawat Kulrattanarak and Monthai and Peung Kunya Leenuttapong as Bpeeyachat. The story starts when Montha is going to live in Australia to pursue his study. He is from a rich family and his father was a womanizer, seen by the fact that Monthai has a half brother from a different mother. There was a maid's daughter name Lakkana who liked Monthai but Monthai already had a fiance, Viyada, a spoiled woman from rich family. Monthai's mother know about Lakkana's love so she mistreat her and make her suffer till she hang herself to death. Years later, Monthai's mother is sick and the only way to recover is that Viyada take care of her. Viyada did't want to take care of her future mother in law so she sent her servant instead. Monthai is coming back to Thailand and when he sees that Bpee is replacing his fiance, he misunderstand her and treat her badly.

This lakorn is one of my favorite and I love the story line and meaning behind it. Although the actors and actresses weren't my favorite at the time, I grew to love them after this lakorn. There were parts that I didn't love as much as other parts but over all the lakorn itself was a very good lakorn. I going to say that if you are going to watch or have already watch this version before, you should really watch the new version too. If you watch the new version before, I think you should really watch this version too. They are both the same but the actors and actresses playing them changes everything.

Top 20 Channel 3 Lakorns

Channel 3 is Thailand first commercial television station and started back in 1970. It's actually one of the first channel I started noticing on the lakorn that I was watching growing up.  I am going to be a little honest that I love the actors and actresses that are in Channel 3 and they are some of my favorites actors and actresses therefore there is a lot of lakorns on this list compare to Channel 7. I was planning on writing this in two parts because there is a lot of series in this blog but instead I think it better to see a whole entire list instead of two different blog post. Instead of starting at number 20, I am going to switch it around and starts at number 1 because I can go on and on about them all.

1. 4 Huajai Haeng Koon Kao (2010)

This is Channel 3's biggest project as a Channel 3's 40 years celebration. This series consisted of 4 separate but intertwining lakorns. It is based from a series of 4 books by the same name and uses the same casts for all 4 lakorns.

This is one of my favorite series ever and I think this is the series that started the series trend in Thailand because of the last couple of years the series game for lakorns has been going very strong and everyone seems to like it. I personally love it. This series also starred some of my favorite koojin couples and also some of my favorite actors and actresses.

Do I wish for a remake of this series? No. I think this series is very good already. Although it is 9 years old already, this series can't be remake at all because, the actors and actresses already play this series so well that a newer version isn't going to replace this series at all. I might want another version later in the future.

Top 10 Channel 7 Lakorns

I grew up watching Thai Lakorn (drama) and over my whole entire life, I have watch a lot, so many that a lot of them sound the same to me. Channel 7 is one of Thailand public television, and it's one of the channels that a lot of the lakorn back in the day were aired. In this blog, I am going to list my top 10 lakorns that was aired on Channel 7. I found a list of the lakorn aired on this channel through mydramalist.com. 10. So Sanaeha (2017)

So Sanaeha is a remake of the same title from 2003 starring Porche Saran Sirilak and Peak Pattarasaya Kreursuwansiri in this 2017 version.

This lakorn is about Pum, a girl who just graduated and returns home to find her mother leaving to go out with a younger man while her father is ill upstairs. Pum becomes furious at her mother after the death of her father. Ramet, whose mother is handicapped, does everything for his mother, but she still has a very cruel heart. Ramet's mother wants a grandchild, so she puts out an ad looking for a girl who will have Ramet's baby and have nothing to do with them again. She will grant this woman 5 million dollars in return. Ramet doesn't like this at all, but he agrees to make his mother happy. Ramet and Pum meet on bad terms at the mall when Ramet's girlfriend wanted to buy the shirt that Pum got, but as she is friends with Ramet's brother Rangsan, Pum begins working at their family's modeling agency. After Pum's father's funeral, her mother's boyfriend moves in with them, against Pum's wishes. They have many arguments and disagreements until her mother kicks her out. After fighting at a party for Ramet's mother, Pum decides to apply to the ad in order to get back at her mother. She does not know that the man in the ad is Ramet. So according to the deal, the two are sent to an island together, where they fall in love.

(Summary credit to mydramalist.com)

This is a good drama. The story doesn't just end with them falling in love with each other but the story goes on with her giving birth and coming back into her mother's life again. I would really like to see the original version to compare how different the drama are. Overall, I did wait until the drama fully aired and have subtitle because it kind of got boring for me after awhile. If you would like to watch this drama, click the link above, under the image and support nekomeowmeow because they are amazing.
